World Crisis/World Metamorphosis: Pandemic and Protest

It has been almost exactly one-year to the day that I last wrote a piece to post on this platform, though you may not be aware of this because I never finished the piece which was about attending the Poor Peoples Campaign Moral Revival conference last June. As we are all intimately aware of now, several more significant events have occurred since then (and recently): the pandemic and the massive world-wide movements ignited by the killing of George Floyd! While the global pandemic is new, the unjustified killings/murder of black people in America is not. I believe the timing of these events, by the Universe, occurred so that this murder by the police (first-degree, as I see it) would happen during the world-wide pandemic quarantine. This ensured that those who previously stood in their obliviousness, or denial, of black people being targeted and killed for just being…could no longer do so.

The massive and continuous world-wide PEACEFUL protests against police brutality, primarily, of black people but also of Indigenous and Brown people (all non-white)is encouraging! These institutional, systemic, and (depending on what part of the world you live in) “state” sanctioned killings or detaining of categorically marginalized people are so overtly publicized that to stand firmly in any trope used to support racist ideology that positions the police (regardless of the “race”of the officer) as justified in using undue force, apprehension, “suspicion”,or “being afraid” as excuses to assert their power over members of these communities is reckless and ignorant – no matter how you choose to identify or align yourself politically.

In fact,I choose to believe and assert that the vast majority of people desire the evolution of an actual INCLUSIVE humanity, world-wide, as evidenced by the massive protests in solidarity of Black Lives Mattering (also used to represent marginalized communities in other parts of the world and country). So, with this I challenge those of us who, truly, understand what human equity is to engage from this positionality. For those who are just beginning this journey,I urge you to see and challenge all political rhetoric that is oppressive to some because it is, in fact, oppressive to all!

“Questioning Purposeful Existence”

We often wonder what our life-journey is really for and whether, or not, we are fulfilling its purpose. The signs are all around us if we pay attention to them. While “birds of a feather flock together” as the saying goes, the way each person realizes his or her (or their) mission may be slightly different. We are at a pivotal moment where our humanity is being compromised from every possible angle – politically, socially, educationally, religiously, personally, etc. What value are you bringing to the world, right now?

"Educational Racism"

This country has come a long way, in terms of publicly recognizing and honoring a handful of People of Color (POC) for their extraordinary visibility, insights, and humanitarian work. This is to say that this country still has a great deal of work to do in order to recognize the many who have been toiling away to serve the greater good for all of humanity. It is not enough to recognize a few specific and well-known personalities once a year, or to dedicate space in textbooks to celebrate the work that required whole and expansive communities of unknown activists to achieve.

“Assumptions: Teaching About Race & Racism”

Race, one of the most misunderstood, highly charged, (socio-politically) confounding and empowering concepts created by man. Yet, there are inherent challenges engaging the topic – consciously wrestling with meaningful insights whether your own or another person’s – as, understandably, it is the thing that (almost) universally causes people some level of internal discomfort for varying reasons.
